Panificio Melli’s Sacher Cake, an exquisite and sought-after chocolate cake. Is among the most famous and talked-about cakes in the world. The creation of the Sacher Cake is attributed to the Austrian Franz Sacher for Count Klemens von Metternich in 1832. It consists of two light layers of chocolate cake with a thin layer of apricot jam in the center. The whole cake is covered with a layer of hazelnut and cocoa cream glaze. The original recipe remains a mystery, kept by the famous pastry shop at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna.
